Macron Backs French Farmers in Talks With Milei

Macron defended France’s stance on the EU-Mercosur trade deal during talks with Argentina’s President Milei. He opposed the deal over concerns about cheap beef imports from Brazil and Argentina hurting French farmers.

France is working to block the trade pact, fearing damage to its agriculture. Macron is pushing for stronger protections for French farming interests before the deal is finalized.

Macron and Milei, despite differing views on climate change, discussed global issues, with Macron hoping to sway Milei on supporting international climate agreements.

The meeting also prepared both leaders for the G20 summit, where Macron aims to promote cooperation on climate and other global challenges.

In Buenos Aires, Macron visited a church that symbolizes resistance during Argentina’s dictatorship, honoring the victims, including French nationals.
