Daniel Hackett Becomes Top Italian Scorer in EuroLeague History

Virtus Segafredo Bologna’s shooting spree handed the Italian side a big road win over AS Monaco (83-59) for EuroLeague Round 2. Contributing to a club-record 16 3-point shots by adding two daggers of his own, Daniel Hackett managed to add his name to the history books.

The 36-year-old point guard became the top Italian scorer in the history of the EuroLeague, finishing the game with 8 points. Hackett has scored 2,283 points on the top stage, overtaking the retired former Fenerbahce and Olimpia Milano legend Luigi Datome (2,278).

Hackett has scored only 219 of his total point tally in the Virtus Bologna jersey. By far, he scored the most as a member of CSKA Moscow (862), while netting 425 with Olimpia Milano, 279 with Montepsaschi Siena and another 249 with Olympiacos.

Overall, he’s averaged averaged 8.2 points in 277 appearances.

Hackett has embarked on his 12th EuroLeague season, while Datome took 13 seasons to reach his 2,278 points, but also 273 matches. It’s clear that the Italian-American guard will have many more opportunities to further consolidate his position at the top of the all-time list and perhaps set an unattainable record for the generations to come.
