The European Commission on Monday approved a Data Privacy Framework aimed at ensuring safe data flows between the European Union and the United States.
The approval came in tandem with a decision adopted by the European Commission concluding that the U.S. « ensures an adequate level of protection — comparable to that of the European Union (EU) — for personal data transferred safely from the EU to the US companies under the new framework. »
The new framework « will ensure safe data flows for Europeans and bring legal certainty to companies on both sides of the Atlantic, » said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
The new framework will be subject to periodic reviews, with the first of these to take place within a year, the European Commission said.
