France demands that Israel end colonization of Palestinian territory

Paris, Jan 4 (Prensa Latina) The French government told Israel today the urgency of ending its policy of colonizing Palestinian territories, which it considered a threat to the two-state solution.

In a statement, the Foreign Ministry reiterated its support for this exit backed by the international community, so that both States can coexist in peace and security, sharing Jerusalem as the capital.

This is the only solution that would bring a just and lasting peace for the Israelis and the Palestinians, she stressed.

Likewise, Quai d’Orsay -as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is called here- expressed concern about the recent visit of the Israeli Minister of Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, to the Esplanade of the Mosques, in Jerusalem, a tour of the member of the extreme right framed by Palestine in the attempt to “Judaize” the holy site.

France reiterates the need to maintain the historic status quo in Jerusalem and condemns any attempt to jeopardize it, he expressed in a call similar to the one made earlier by the United Nations.

Paris also brought up Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s pledge to respect it.

In addition to showing concern about the colonization of the occupied West Bank and the visit of the minister to the Esplanade of the Mosques, the Foreign Ministry criticized the increase in violence against Palestinians in the West Bank.
