Serbia Intends to Resume Rail Service to Romania

April 10 (SeeNews) – Serbia’s infrastructure minister Goran Vesic said that his country plans to resume the train service to neighbouring Romania.

Serbia plans to overhaul two regional railway lines – from the central city of Pancevo to the Romanian border via Vrsac in eastern Serbia, and from Pancevo to the Romanian border via Zrenjanin and Kikinda, in the north, Vesic said in a press release last week after holding talks with Romania’s ambassador in Belgrade, Silvija Davidoju

“It is important to reestablish the train service between Serbia and Romania which was cancelled due to disagreements about debts. We want to solve that problem and re-establish the rail link, » Vesic said.

The railway service connecting Serbia’s capital, Belgrade, to Timisoara, in western Romania stopped operating in 2012, according to local media reports.
