Taiwan’s Ju Percussion Group to play in Paris

TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Ju Percussion Group will head to France to perform at the Salle Gaveau concert hall in Paris on June 22 following a 22-year hiatus.

In an interview, Ju Tzong-ching (朱宗慶) said the Paris tour was a rare opportunity, per CNA. News of the ticketed concert in Paris piqued the interest of percussion departments in French schools and Taiwanese music students, all eager to experience the allure of the group’s performance.

The Paris concert will feature six pieces, five of which were performed at the 2022 Percussive Arts Society (PAS) in the U.S. to great acclaim, reported CNA. These include Gene Koshinski’s “Beyond the Bend,” Emmanuel Sejourne’s « Attraction 2,” and more.

Founded in 1986, the group has toured 35 countries and is approaching its 40th anniversary. “We are currently organizing our pieces to create five to 10 sets of international tour programs, aiming to align with international percussion standards while highlighting the group’s artistic vocabulary,” Ju was quoted as saying.

Ju said the constant rehearsals and performances were pushing the group members to their limits, yet none of them complained about fatigue.

“I believe the satisfaction from the music drives them,” Ju said. “As long as there is love, every performance opportunity is cherished.”
